GREENSBORO, NC - Iona College outdoor track sophomore Regina Neumeyer and graduate student Matt Bayley competed in their respective sections of the 3,000-meter steeple chase on the second day of the 2013 NCAA Championship East Preliminary Rounds at North Carolina A&T.
Neumeyer finished seventh in her heat and 23rd overall in the 3k steeple chase. She crossed the line in 10:24.37. It was the second fastest time in school history. Neumeyer's own time of 10:17.75 at last year's NCAA East Preliminary event is the Iona record.
Bayley was forced to tap out of his heat in the 3k steeple chase. He suffered an injury suffered on the second to last water jump with less than 550m remaining.
The Gaels complete action in Greensboro Saturday when junior Kirsten Stewart competes in the 1500-meter quarterfinal at 6:30 pm and the men's quartet of Graduate students Mitch Goose, Daniel Clorley, Matthew Gillespie, and freshman Kieran Clements runs the 5,000-meter semifinal at 8:45 pm.
