NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College volleyball head coach Jon Killingbeck announced the 2013 schedule.  The slate this season consists of 29 matches, including ten at home at the Hynes Center.

The season opens Aug. 30 at the Pepperdine Asics Classic in Malibu, CA. Iona faces Wisconsin in their first match of the season at 8:00 pm.  The Gaels then face the host Waves, a team coming off a 2012 NCAA Championship appearance before wrapping up the weekend against Delaware.

Iona continues non-conference play at the Cornell Invitational, begining Sep. 6. The Gaels face Buffalo, Bucknell, and Cornell during the two-day round robin.

On Sep. 13, the Gaels head to Gainsville, FL for the Active Ankle Challenge, which includes matchups with Western Michigan and Georgetown.

Iona also plays the host Gators in the tournament, another team that qualified for the 2012 NCAA Championship.  Florida advanced to the second round of the tournament a year ago before falling to eventual national champion Texas.

On its way back from the Sunshine State, Iona will stop for a non-conference match at Savannah State in Georgia on Sep. 15.

Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play begins with a pair of road games, beginning Sep. 21 at Siena and the following day at Marist.

The Maroon and Gold opens its home slate at the Hynes Center on Sep. 25, welcome in St. Francis for a 7:00 pm start. Home league play begins with the Gaels hosting Quinnipiac and Fairfield on Sep. 28 and Sep 29.

Iona will then go on the road for four straight conference road games, beginning on Oct. 2 at Saint Peter’s. The Gaels will then head to Western New York for a two game swing at Canisius (Oct. 5) and at Niagara (Oct. 6) before wrapping up the road trip at Manhattan (Oct. 12).

Iona will then host four consecutive matchups at home, beginning Oct. 19 when Rider visits the Hynes Center during homecoming weekend. The following day, the Gaels host Saint Peter’s before hosting Marist (Oct. 26) and Siena (Oct. 27) the following weekend.

Iona will then travel to Rider (Oct. 30) for a midweek affair before hosting Niagara (Nov. 2) and Canisius (Nov. 3).

The Gaels will wrap up their road slate at Fairfield (Nov. 10) before a non-conference matchup on the road at NJIT (Nov. 13). The squad then wraps up the regular season at home against Manhattan (Nov. 16).

The 2013 MAAC Volleyball Championship takes place Nov. 23 and 24 at Siena College.

Under the direction of third year coach Killingbeck, the Gaels return 13 players from a season ago including rising seniors Alicja Pawelec and Madisyn Spence and rising junior Catrina Warren.

Pawelec recorded 342 kills a season ago while Warren had 284 kills of her own. Spence was third on the squad in the category, registering 219 kills in 2012.
