NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College men's soccer team concluded its 2013 exhibition schedule Saturday with a 2-1 win over Temple at the Ambler Sports Complex.
Iona got its first goal of the contest from sophomore Oscar Gonzalez off an assist from junior Ignacio Maganto. Gonzalez connected on a low and hard shot from 15 yards out, getting past the Owls' keeper. Senior Franklin Castellanos contributed the game winner, chipping a world class finish over the keeper's head from 12 yards out. Senior MJ Nestor was credited with the assist.
On Aug. 18, the Gaels dropped a 4-0 decision to fifth-ranked Connecticut in their exhibition opener. The Gaels kept the contest tight, trailing just 1-0 after at halftime. In the second half, the American Athletic Conference favorites found the net three times, including two goals by Juho Karppinen.
Iona begins its regular season Friday at UC Riverside at 10:00 pm.
