The Gaels got on the board quickly when the Maroon & Gold countered a Harvard attack. Maganto sent a long pass down the right side to Adjei. Adjei dribbled in and fired past Harvard goalkeeper Brett Conrad to give Iona a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute.
The two teams would trade opportunities, going over an hour of play without another tally, until Iona struck for its second goal. Castellanos sent a ball into the top left of the Harvard goalie box. Conrad came out to play the ball, but was beaten to the play by Maganto, who collected possession, juked to his left, and rolled the ball to put Iona ahead 2-0.
Less than 90 seconds later, Iona capped the scoring as Castellanos collected a long ball over top from Maganto and beat the Harvard defense with a shot into the far side.
Iona ended the game with a 14-9 advantage in shots while both squads each had three corner kicks. Sophomore Julian Petrello made three saves to record his first career shutout. Conrad was credited with six saves.
Iona is back in action Tuesday, when it hosts Albany in its home opener at Mazzella Field at 3:00 pm.
