NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Junior OH Catrina Warren tied a school record for kills in a three-set match as the Iona College volleyball team swept St. Francis Brooklyn in its 2013 home opener in non-conference action at the Hynes Center. Warren completed her team-leading fourth double-double of the year with 21 kills and 10 digs.
Warren tied teammate Alicja Pawelec's mark set at Rider on Oct. 29, 2011. She hit .514 on 37 attack attempts while adding an ace and a block. Pawelec posted nine kills and junior RS Taylor Cembalisty had eight in the win.
Five different Gaels recorded 10 kills in the win including Warren, Cembalisty, senior libero Madisyn Spence sophomores OH Katy Crouse and setter Natalie Ziskin. Ziskin recorded a double-double with 46 assists. It matched the third-highest assist total in a three-set match. Alyssa Morales holds the record with 51 vs. Marist on Oct. 28, 2007.
The Gaels took the match with set scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-10.
Leah Zitting had six kills, setter Kamalei Clifton had 18 assists and libero Feliz Ramirez had 12 digs to lead the visitors.
The Gaels continue a three-match home stand on Saturday when they host Quinnipiac at 6:00 pm at the Hynes Center.
