FAIRFIELD, CT - The Iona College women's soccer team dropped a midweek contest to Fairfield 2-0 Wednesday evening in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Lessing Field.
The loss dropped the Gaels' record to 4-7-4 overall, and 3-2-2 in league. Fairfield improved to 9-5-1 with the win, and 5-1-1 in MAAC play.
Iona found itself in an early deficit, as the Stags got on the board in the seventh minute when Ashley Small connected from five yards out for her 10th goal of the season, putting Fairfield ahead 1-0.
The score would remain the same until the 53rd minute, when Fairfield's Molly Moran added an insurance tally when she put away a loose ball to give the home team a 2-0 cushion.
Fairfield kept the offensive pressure throughout, forcing eight saves from Iona goalkeeper Trista Rivera. Fairfield goalkeeper Kathleen Early, made two stops in the contests, put off shots from Iona senior midfielder Sofia Sanchez.
The Gaels are back in action Saturday, when they welcome to Siena to Mazzella Field for the squad's home finale. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.
