MSD Edges Out Manhattan On The Road

RIVERDALE, NY - The Iona College men's swimming and diving team opened up Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference competition Saturday afternoon against Manhattan at Riverdale Country Day School.  The Gaels used seven event wins to grab a close 137-125 victory over the Jaspers.

In the 200 medley relay, the quartet of freshman Keegan Boisson-Yates, senior Nick Kotonias, senior Tyler Elfert and freshman Matthew Rothman took second with a time of 1:39.88.

The Gaels picked up their first win of the day in the 1000 free, as freshman Collin Purrman took first with a time of 10:16.18. Classmate Bryan Veals took second with a time of 10:37.92.

In the 200 free, senior Justin Grigull picked up another win for the Gaels, taking first with a time of 1:47.54. Rothman took third in the event with a time of 1:51.87.

Boisson-Yates took second in the 100 back with a time of 53.65. Senior Mark Wallace was third with a time of 56.58.

In the 100 breaststroke, Kotonias was the Gaels' top finisher, taking third with a time of 1:03.61.

Purrman picked up his second victory of the day, with a first place finish in the 200 fly, touching with a time of 1:58.75. Elfert was second with a time of 2:02.60.

Grigull took second in the 50 free with a time of 22.72. Sophomore Tommy Keefe was third in the event with a time of 22.99.

Grigull took first in the 100 free with a time of 48.99. Rothman was second with a time of 49.58.

Boisson-Yates took second in the 200 back with a time of 2:01.85. Kotonias finished third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:18.04.

Purrman picked up a win in the 500 free with a time of 4:58.54. Veals took second with a time of 5:06.29.

Elfert took first in the 100 fly with a time of 53.83. Freshman Liam Oberlander was third in the event with a time of 55.52.

Kotonias was third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:03.98.

The 200 free relay team of Elfert, Rothman, Keefe and Grigull took first with a time of 1:29.03. Just behind in second was the team of Oberlander, senior Ryan Bacci, Veals and Purrman, who finished with a time of 1:31.72.
