LOUDONVILLE, NY - Three members of the Iona College volleyball team were named All-MAAC for their performances during the 2013 campaign. Junior OH Catrina Warren was named to the First Team while senior OH Alicja Pawelec and sophomore setter Natalie Ziskin were named to the Second Team.
Warren led the MAAC in kills per game, posting 3.70 per set. She also topped the points list (4.15 per set). In conference play, she averaged 3.8 kills and 4.28 points per set.
Pawelec was sixth in kills (2.90 per set), fourth in aces (0.34 per set) and fourth in points (3.48 per set). The numbers improved to 3.15 kills, 0.39 aces, and 3.78 points per set in MAAC play.
Was one of two MAAC performers to average more than 10 assists per set (10.74) and was second in the statistic. She finished .01 assists per set behind the MAAC leader in conference only games averaging 11.16 per set.
The Gaels also matched Rider for the conference lead in All-Academic performers. Pawelec, Warren and Ziskin were joined by seniors Ellen Carberry, Kelsey Hess and Madisyn Spence, juniors Taylor Cembalisty, Katie Marabella and Shannon Ward, and sophomore McKenzie Humann.
To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Ten of the 13 Iona student-athletes eligible for the honor were selected.
The Gaels finished third in the MAAC with a 13-5 overall record. The 13 total wins were a school record in MAAC play, surpassing a 12-6 mark in 2010. Iona takes on No. 2 Marist in the semifinal round of the MAAC Championship Saturday at 4:00 pm at Siena's Alumni Recreation Center.
