Volleyball Falls To Marist In MAAC Semifinal

LOUDONVILLE, NY - The Iona College volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking five set decision to Marist in the semifinal round of the 2013 MAAC Championship at Siena's Alumni Recreation Center. The Gaels (16-14) rallied from two sets down to tie the match at 2-2 before falling in the deciding frame.

Sophomore MH McKenzie Humann had a team-high 18 kills and .452 hitting percentage. Senior OH Alicja Pawelec (16 kills, 10 digs), junior RS Taylor Cembalisty (13 kills, 11 digs) and sophomore setter Natalie Ziskin (58 assists, 13 digs) each posted double-doubles in the loss. Junior OH Catrina Warren posted eight kills and 14 digs while junior MB Shannon Ward had nine kills and a team-high four blocks. Senior libero Madisyn Spence added 14 digs.

Marist was led by 20 kills from Kelsey Lahey. Libero Brooke Zywick had 20 digs and setter Audra Brady posted 56 assists for the Red Foxes.

The Gaels completed the season with a 16-14 overall record. Iona was 13-5 in MAAC play, setting a school record for conference wins.
