Iona Soccer Announces Inaugural Fustal Tournament

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College men's and women's soccer programs are pleased to announce the dates for the first annual Iona Soccer Futsal Tournament.

Futsal is a five-a-side soccer game that is played extensively throughout the world. It is played indoors on a basketball sized court where players are con-stantly placed in situations where they must receive or play whilst under pres-sure or in confined spaces. The ball is a smaller and heavier version of a soccer ball which challenges a player to use their skill rather than the ball’s bounce to propel it.

Futsal is a game that helps develop the technical skills of soccer players. It is a great way to develop creative and technical players.

Here are the dates and age groupings for each event:
Dec. 28, 2013: Girls U-9 & U-10
Dec. 29, 2013: Boys U-8 & U-9

Jan. 4, 2014: Girls U-11
Jan 5, 2014: Boys U10 & U-11

Jan. 11, 2014: Girls U-12
Jan. 12, 2014: Boys U-12 & U-13

The tournament application is available here.

The entry deadline is one week prior to the desired tournament. The tournament fee is $225 per team and must be paid in full by the entry deadline to confirm your team's acceptance.  Rosters are limited to a maximum of nine players.

Please make checks payable to Iona College and please indicate BOYS or GIRLS in the memo section of the check.
