Turner Named MAAC Softball Player Of The Week

EDISON, NJ - After leading the Gaels' offense in her first collegiate weekend, Iona College softball freshman Kristen Turner was named MAAC Player of the Week, the league announced today.

Turner posted a .500 batting average over her first four games for the Maroon & Gold at the Phoenix Opening Tournament hosted by Elon. Turner connected on seven hits over 14 at-bats, including two doubles and two home runs. Turner also drove in five runs and scored five times. She registered a .500 slugging percentage and a 1.071 slugging percentage.

In the season opener against UMBC (2/21), Turner went 4-5, with a double, home run and three runs batted in. The following day against the Retrivers (2/22), Turner picked up a double and scored two more runs. Against Saint Joseph's (2/23), Turner went 2-3 with a a home run, two runs batted in and a another run scored.

Iona is back in action for four games at the Lady Pirate Classic in Hampton, VA from Mar. 8-9.
