ROCKWELL, TX - Despite a fifth place finish in the 400 freestyle relay and a thirteenth place in the 100 yard freestyle by senior Justin Grigull, the Iona College men’s swimming team placed sixth in the first ever College Swim Coaches Association of America Collegiate Swim Classic. The Gaels totaled 126 points in the meet.
Held at the Rockwell (TX) Aquatic Center, outside of Dallas, the meet, designed to be a championship caliber invitational for those swimmers not invited to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Division I Championship, was held over three days in the NCAA Championship format.
Grand Canyon University took home the championship totaling 809.5-points. Western Kentucky University placed second with 629 points, the University of Incarnate Word placed third with a total of 450.5 points, and Brigham Young University finished fourth with 333 points. MAAC rival Rider finished two points ahead of Iona, totaling 128 points.
