NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College baseball team dropped its season finale to Rider 8-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at City Park. Prior to the game the Gaels honored the program's six seniors.
Rider took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third, after threatening in its first two at bats. The Gaels got a run back in the fourth inning as sophomore SS Vinny DeMaria came around from second base on an RBI single by rookie C Alex Beckett.
The Broncs added a run in the fifth and two more in the seventh to lead 6-1. Iona scored its second run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Rookie C Chris Russo doubled with one out. He scored two batters later on sophomore DH Zach Brown's run scoring base hit up the middle.
Beckett, Russo and Brown accounted for the Gaels' three hits in the contest. Senior RHP Kenny Dietrich took the loss in his final start in Maroon & Gold. He allowed four runs over 4.1 innings pitched while recording four strikeouts. Sophomore RHP Max Bruckner went the final 4.2 innings and allowed two earned runs and struck out four.
