NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Alumni of the Iona College men’s basketball team are assembling a team known as GaelNation to participate in the upcoming TBT, 5-on-5 basketball tournament starting with the Play-In Jamboree in Philadelphia, PA from June 17-18 followed by Regional Round action. This year, 64 teams will compete for a winner-takes-all prize of $2 million.

The 64 teams are selected to four different regions with nine teams in each region earning selection based on popularity. The popularity is calculated by number of votes TheTournament.com as of Thursday, June 1 at 12:00 pm ET. Six more teams for each region will be selected as “at large” teams, needing at least 100 fans, seven players and meet eligibility requirements. Finally, the last team into each region will advance after playing in the TBT Jamboree in Philadelphia.
Following the Play-In Jamboree, 16 teams will play in the regions of Philadelphia and Charlotte, NC throughout July 8-9 while the other two regions will be played in Las Vegas and at Bradley University in Peoria, IL on July 15 and 16. Winners advance to the Super 16, set for July 20-23 followed by the semifinal and championship for $2 million on August 1st and 3rd in Baltimore, MD. ESPN will air the semifinal and championship games in addition to coverage throughout the tournament on the ESPN Network.

The team is being led by general manager John Kiggins, Iona graduate class of 2016 and four-year basketball manager. Additionally, nine of the 10 players on the team played under head coach Tim Cluess during their Maroon & Gold career.
