NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College women's basketball head coach Anthony Bozzella has added Ashlee Kelly to his staff for the 2009-10 season, it was announced today.  Kelly will serve as an assistant coach and comes to New Rochelle after spending three years as the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Mercy College.

"I couldn't be more excited to have Ashlee join my women's basketball staff," said Bozzella.  "I've had the privlege of coaching against her when she was a player and have gotten to know her through the years as a coach as well.  I know as a player she was a tremendous talent with a great work ethic and I'm sure those traits will follow her here as an assistant coach at Iona."

In her new role with the Gaels, Kelly will be involved in all aspects of the program.  Her primary responsibilities will be working with the post players, recruiting, and game preparation.

While at Mercy, Kelly transformed a 2-75 program into a legitimate ECC league competitor, with 2009 marking the team's first conference tournament appearance in eight years.  She recruited and developed multiple All-Conference athletes and organized a community based outreach program providing basketball clinics to local school children.

Kelly's playing experience includes four years at Quinnipiac University, where she graduated from in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.  She completed her career with the Bobcats ranked second all-time in both scoring (1,580 points) and rebounding (1,107).  Kelly was named NEC Player of the Year during her junior season and led all NCAA Division I players in rebounding at 13.5 per game as a senior.

Following her collegiate career, Kelly went on to play professionally for the Perik Jumpers in Holland, leading the nation in scoring and rebounding over the 2004-05 season.  She began her coaching career as an assistant for the Connecticut Breeze U-13 and U-15 AAU teams in 2003 and 2004, and served as an assistant for a Dutch youth league while playing overseas in the fall of 2004 and spring of 2005.

In addition to her head coaching role at Mercy, Kelly also served as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Student Services/SWA beginning in July 2006.  She filled the role of Interim Co-Director of Athletics for the 2007-08 academic year.
