Mulcahy Gymnasium - Multi Purpose Courts
The Hynes Athletics Center’s 7,800 sq. ft. state-of-the art multi-purpose courts features two courts and one NCAA Regulation size basketball court. The multi-purpose courts are home to the new intramural program as well as general recreational use. The Intramural program offers a variety of extra-curricular activities that promote discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, fairness, and honesty among participants. Mulcahy Gymnasium has afforded the Intramural and Recreation Department the space to program a variety of athletic opportunities for the student body. These include 5x5 basketball, indoor soccer, kickball, volleyball, dodgeball, wiffleball, ultimate Frisbee and various other tournaments throughout the academic year.
The aerobics center, featuring hardwood floors, provides space for students to participate in aerobics and/or dance classes. It also provides the Iona Gaels Cheerleaders and Dance Team a convenient place to practice their routines. This open space is easily converted into an area for pre-game events, convocations, special academic and student events, as well as receptions and Goal Club functions.
- The Hynes Center Staff, in conjunction with the Student Development Office, offer a variety of wellness classes, including but not limited to step-aerobics, Pilates, Yoga, strength and conditioning, karate and various dance classes. Classes are open to all students, faculty and Hynes Center Members at a nominal cost.
The free-weight room provides students with the opportunity to utilize a variety of diverse free-weight stations including both plate-loaded and dumbbell workout areas. Dumbbells range in weight from 5 pounds to 100 pounds to accommodate a wide range of fitness levels.
The 2,800 sq. ft cardiovascular center overlooks Mazzella Field and offers 30 separate cardio machines featuring treadmills, elliptical gliders, upright and recumbent bicycles. The cardiovascular room is highlighted by a circuit of Free Motion and Echo selectorized training equipment.

This training facility, located on the ground floor of the Hynes Athletics Center, houses Iona’s first rowing tank. The rowing tanks mimic the current of a river allowing the Crew team the opportunity to train in conditions similar to those experienced during actual races. Rowing tanks were designed and constructed for off-season rowing, muscle-specific conditioning and technique training. The tank is especially useful during the winter months when rowing in the New Rochelle Marina is not an option.
Creating additional office space in the new Hynes Athletics Center for coaches and their staff has allowed for better recruiting strategies. The new Hynes Athletics Center has inevitably attracted more qualified student athletes from all areas of the country.
The Hynes Athletics Center has men's and women's locker and shower facilities, which can be used on a daily basis. There is limited assigned locker space for faculty and staff use. Day lockers for students and members are on a first-come-serve basis. All locks must be removed by closing each day.
