STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Scott Machado, Men's Basketball

Iona College men's basketball sophomore Scott Machado was named All-MAAC Second Team on Monday on the league's pre-championship teleconference.

Machado led the Gaels in scoring, assists, steals and free throw percentage in his second year in New Rochelle. The reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year averaged 12.4 points and became the second player in school history to record 100+ assists in both his freshman and sophomore seasons (Marvin McCullough '06). Machado was a 2009 MAAC All-Rookie team member in addition to being named to the All-MBWA Third Team.

The Maroon & Gold take on No. 6 Niagara in the quarterfinal round of the MAAC Championship on Saturday night. The matchup will be televised on MSG Network and is scheduled for a 10:00 pm tip-off.
