Harrell Named Assistant Swim Coach
NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Iona College men’s and women’s swimming and diving head coach Nick Cavataro - entering his 31st season at the helm of the Gaels - has announced New Rochelle native Ryan Harrell will join the Maroon & Gold coaching staff as an assistant coach. Harrell joins Cavataro, Brian Hansbury and Rob Parrinelli on the Hynes Pool deck.
“We had a tremendous applicant group and, it was Ryan’s unique combination of knowledge, background, energy and experience in sales that makes this a great fit,” said Cavataro.
Ryan Harrell - a 2007 Towson University graduate with a degree in exercise science - was the school record holder in the 200-yard individual medley, 400-yard individual medley while also serving as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association record holding 800-yard freestyle relay.
Harrell was a CAA finalist in the 500-yard freestyle, 400-yard individual medley and champion in the 800-yard freestyle relay at the 2003 ECAC Championships. Harrell swam locally for Iona Prep and the nationally ranked USA swim program, the Badger Swim Club.
Harrell has an extensive background as a sales executive and commodities broker and has most recently coached with the Merritt Athletic Club, in Baltimore, MD.
