NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College men's water polo team wrapped up its home schedule Tuesday evening with a matchup against CWPA rival Fordham University. The Gaels, held scoreless in the first and third quarters, put up five goals in the second and fourth to pick up a 10-9 win.
After each team was unable to convert in the first eight minutes of play, the Gaels jumped out to a 2-0 lead on two goals by senior Cameron Hudson. The Gaels would then push the lead to 5-2 heading into halftime. Fordham would come back to tie the contest with a 3-0 third quarter. The Gaels and Rams traded goals before a goal by freshman Jake Lloyd put the Gaels ahead 9-8. Another goal by Hudson would the Gaels' lead to two, a goal that would prove to be the gamewinner.
Hudson made his final home game in Maroon & Gold count, scoring five goals and dishing out one assist. Hudson also went four-for-four on swimoffs. Lloyd had three points on two goals and one assist, while adding two field blocks and a steal. Sophomores Lee Stiles and Matthew Stelnicki and freshman Kyle Elmore closed out the Iona scoring with one goal each. Sophomore Stefen Hill had 10 saves in net for the Gaels.
Iona, 2-3 In Northern Division play, wrap up their conference schedule Friday when they travel to New London, CT to take on Connecticut College at 8:00 pm.
