WWP Heads Into MAAC Championship Ranked 20th

BRIDGEPORT, PA - The Iona College women's water polo team, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season champions, head into this weekend's MAAC Water Polo Championships as not only as the top seed, but also as the No. 20 team in the country, as the April 25/Week 14 Women's Varsity National Polls were released by the CWPA league office Wednesday afternoon.

The Gaels received seven points in the poll, just behind California State University, Northridge, the 19th ranked team in the poll.  Stanford University holds the No. 1 spot for a third week in a row as the Cardinal earned 100 points to rate as a unanimous top pick.

The Gaels open up the MAAC Championships Saturday at 1:00 pm, when they take on fourth-seeded Villanova in the first game of the semifinal round.  Second-seeded Marist College and third-seeded Wagner College will battle at 3:00 pm in the second semifinal of the day. 

The championship match will take place on Sunday, April 29 at 2:00 pm The winner of the championship will receive the MAAC's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division I Water Polo Championship.
