Gaels Finish Season Ranked 19th In The Country

BRIDGEPORT, PA - The Iona College women's water polo team jumped to a program best 19th ranking in the Final Women's Varsity Polls released today by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA).

At the 2011 NCAA Water Polo Championship, the Gaels claimed eighth place in their first appearance in the tournament. In their quarterfinal matchup with Stanford, the Gaels put up a tournament best seven goals on the eventual National Champions. Senior Maggie Wood concluded her Iona career with a spot on the All-Tournament team after posting four goals, four assists and drawing two ejections in three games in Ann Arbor.

Voted on by a panel of coaches and administrators from around the country during the preseason and each week of the season based on the cumulative results of each team, the Varsity Top 20, Division III Top 10 and Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 10 polls are released on Wednesday during the season until the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.
