STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Leonard Korir, men’s cross country
Iona College men's cross country senior Leonard Korir won his second straight Northeast Regional Championship at Audubon Golf Course in Buffalo, NY. Korir led the Gaels to a second place team finish and the team's 10th straight automatic bid into the NCAA Championship.
Korir's time of 31:10.4 in the 10k course topped Providence's David McCarthy by three seconds.
An Iona runner has won the individual championship for four consecutive years following Korir's back-to-back titles and Ryan Sheridan in 2009 and Mohamed Khadraoui in 2008.
In the MAAC cross-country championships, Korir led the pack with a time of 24.41.6, just a second ahead of classmate Matt Bayley.
