EDISON, NJ - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has awarded women's water polo weekly honors to both senior Mackenzie Mone and sophomore Marisa Gaynor after the Gaels went 3-1 this past weekend at the Harvard Invitational in Cambridge, MA. Mone was named Offensive Player of the Week while Gaynor earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Mone was a key performer for Iona, scoring 11 goals over the weekend to lead the Gaels. She netted 3 goals in an 11-4 triumph over Mercyhurst, and versus Bucknell she scored five goals in an exciting 13-11 victory. Mone also had 12 steals total this weekend, including four against No. 12 San Jose State.
Gaynor was a workhorse in front of the net for Iona at the Harvard Invite, playing 128 minutes and making 43 saves overall. Her 18 saves in a 12-11 overtime victory against host Harvard proved to be the difference-maker.
The Gaels are back in action next weekend at the Marist Invitational in Poughkeepsie, NY.
