NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Sophomore Brenna Lade led the Iona College lacrosse team with three goals on the afternoon, but a 31-20 advantage in shots allowed La Salle to walk away with a 10-7 victory over the Gaels at Mazzella Field on Saturday.
Junior Kylie Gregory scored a pair for Iona (1-2) and senior Emily Taddei and sophomore Nina Veneziale scored single tallies.
La Salle (1-1) took a quick 5-0 lead over the Gaels, on three free position shots. Iona finally tallied with 5:40 remaining in the half, as Lade scored her first of the contest. The hosts added two more goals in the half to make it a 5-3 deficit with goals from Veneziale and Gregory.
Gregory scored her second of the game in the final stanza bringing the Iona deficit to three, 7-4. La Salle scored three more times to take a 10-4 lead with 14 minutes remaining, before Iona answered with three more late in the game.
Senior Casey Scully found Taddei with 12:25 remaining to cut the game in half, 10-5, and then a pair from Lade in the final minute of regulation made it a three-goal game.
Junior Nancy Ibrahim made 13 saves in the loss.
Claire Andrew led La Salle with five goals on the afternoon and Lauren McDermott scored twice for the Explorers. Megan Corliss made 10 saves for the visitors.
The Gaels will take on Long Island on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
