BUFFALO, NY - Iona College senior Angela Grous was named an All-MAAC Second Team selection, while freshman Erin Pugh earned a spot on the MAAC All-Rookie Team, the conference announced this evening at the 2014 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Awards Show.
Grous led the Gaels in several defensive categories, picking up 16 ground balls, and 47 draws controls. In league play, the veteran ranked sixth in the MAAC with 12 caused turnovers, and finished the season with 16 overall. On the season, Grous tallied one goal and dished out two assists.
Pugh led the Gaels with 25 goals and ranked thiird on the team in points with 28. In eleven starts, Pugh grabbed 16 ground balls, registered 15 draw controls, and caused six turnovers. The freshman was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on April 14th.
Eleven Gaels were also named to the All-MAAC Academic team, led by seniors Nicole Brancaccio, Maria Ortiz, and Nina Veneziale. Juniors Marisa Tomsky and Meghan Testoni were recognized along with sophomores Hannah Fasano, Thea Leitman, Mary Kate McCormick, Blaire Nathanson, Laura Waldron, and Michelle Whitham. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
