BOSTON, MA - Freshman Regina Neumeyer led three Iona College women's track performers at 2012 BU Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University. Neumeyer set a Maroon & Gold freshman record in the mile, her second of the season.
Neumeyer's time of 4:42.05 was good for fourth overall and the third fastest mile in school history. She was less than five seconds off the race winner, Dartmouth's Abbey D'Agostino. The time was third to teammate Heidi Gregson's top two times of 4:40.08 and 4:41.60 set in 2010 and 2011. She topped former Gael McKayla Plank's freshman standard of 4:53.12 set in 2006.
Gregson was seventh overall in the 3,000-meter run. She ran a personal best time of 9:27.11. It was the second fastest time in school history behind Salome Kosgei's 9:16.72 in 2007. Gregson was four seconds behind the sixth place finisher and four seconds ahead of the eighth place performer in the race.
Junior Hollie Rowland was also seventh in the 5,000-meter run. Rowland ran a personal best time of 16:31.80, good for the third fastest 5k in Iona women's indoor track history. Kosgei also holds the Gaels' 5k mark of 16:01.28 in 2007. Emmily Chelanga is No. 2 at 16:25.67.
