Edison, NJ – Iona College seniors Leonard Korir and Heidi Gregson were named the MAAC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week, respectively.

Korir finished fourth in the men’s 5,000-meter run at the 105th Millrose games at the New Balance Track and Field Center at The Armory. Korir’s time of 13:19.54 broke his own school record time by nearly seven seconds set in last year’s NCAA Championship. Team Nike’s Bernard Lagat and Arizona’s Lawi Lalang and Stephen Sambu finished ahead of Korir in the record breaking race.  Lagat broke the American record of 13:11.44 set by Galen Rupp (Nike) in 2011. Lalang broke the College record of 13:18.12 set by Rupp (Oregon) in 2009. Korir’s time was the fourth fastest time in NCAA Indoor 5k history.

Gregson won her heat in the mile run at the 2012 UW Husky Classic in Seattle, WA. Gregson ran a school record and personal best time of 4:38.05. Gregson topped her own Iona record of 4.40.08 set in 2010. She holds the top three times in school history in the mile event. Gregson finished eighth overall in the 28-runner race field that was comprised of both professional and collegiate athletes.

The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held on Friday, February 17th at The New Balance Armory Track & Field Center in New York City.
