LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - Junior Marion Joly-Testault was named the MAAC Outdoor Track Championships Most Outstanding Performer for her performance in winning the 5,000- and 10,000-meter individual titles. Joly-Testualt joined senior Heidi Gregson, sophomore Kirsten Stewart, freshman Regina Neumeyer and the 4x800-meter relay squad as event winners at the meet.
Joly-Testault set a MAAC Championship record Friday night in the 10k event with her time of 35:33.18. She broke former Gael standout Salome Kosgei's time of 36:06.99 set in 2007 by more than 39 seconds. She finished more than a minute a head of Marist's Addie DiFrancesco to take the title. Freshman Lauren Calvino was fourth overall in 38:25.49 while sophomore Courtney Veilleux crossed in eighth place.
In the 5k, Joly-Testualt earned her sixth career MAAC Championship and defended her 5000-meter outdoor crown for the third straight year with her time of 16:41.31. She topped teammate Hollie Rolwand (16:48.45) by eight seconds. Joly-Testault's time was an outdoor personal best for the junior and less than a second off of Kosgei's MAAC Championship record time (16:40.68, 2007). Junior Chelsea Hanson finished 11th in the event.
Gregson earned her 13th career MAAC Championship defending her 800-meter crown for the fourth straight year. She bested her own meet record time set last season, crossing the line in 2:08.13. Gregson's former record stood at 2:10.45. Her 2012 time was the third fastest in school history, behind McKayla Plank's 2:07.07 (2007, Larry Ellis) and her own personal best of 2:07.10 (2010, Colonial Relays). Neumeyer was second overall in the 800 running a personal best and Iona freshman record time of 2:10.87. It was the eighth fastest time in school history as she joins Plank and Gregson as the only performers to run a sub-2:11 800-meter time. Freshman Marlene Delices was fifth running a personal best time of 2:14.38. Senior Teegan Schoch was 10th overall in the event.
In the 1500-meter event, the Gaels had three of the top four finishers. Stewart earned her first individual MAAC Championship (in addition to her three relay MAAC titles). Stewart crossed in 4:30.92, a second faster than classmate Katie Niblock (4:31.98). Stewart's time was just under a half second behind the MAAC meet record set by former teammate Leonie Smith last year. Schoch was fourth overall with a personal best time of 4:42.48.
Neumeyer collected her second career MAAC title, finishing first in the 3,000-meter steeple chase Friday night. She finished just under 31 seconds faster than Rider's Erin Fitzgibbons with her time of 10:58.55. Junior Erin Brady finished seventh (12:02.92).
The women's 4x800 also shattered the MAAC meet record by nearly 17 seconds to repeat as event champions. Niblock, Delices, Stewart and Gregson set a new standard with a time of 8:52.96. They dominated the race field as second place Manhattan crossed more than 22 seconds behind the Gaels. The former MAAC record time (9:09.63) was set last year by Iona with a trio of seniors (Smith, Chelsea Borbolla and Kristen Peluso) and Gregson as their anchor.
Sophomore Reilly Sullivan earned fifth place points in the 400-meter hurdles. Her time of 1:05.00 was a personal best and school record in the event.
The Gaels finished fourth overall as Saint Peter's repeated as team champions.
