LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA -  The Iona college golf team finished in fifth place after Day One of the 2012 MAAC  Championships at the Disney Magnolia Golf Course on Friday afternoon.

The Gaels shot a 303 for the day as a team and were led by junior Dylan Newman who individually finished tied for fifth shooting an even 72.  Classmate Doug Hoppe also had a great first day shooting just two over par for a 74 and is tied for 11th.

Sophomore Jordan Kral trails with a 77 (+5) and is tied for 21st. The final two Iona shooters junior Andrew Graham and Scott Gallo are tied for 34th after shooting 80, respectively.

Loyola currently leads the pack shooting a conference-low 286.

The second round will pick up tomorrow with staggered times beginning at 7 am.
