CENTER VALLEY, PA - The Iona College golf team jumped four spots from fifth to first to claim a six shot victory in the spring season opening Lafayette Invitational. As a team, the Gaels cut 13 shots from their first score to finish with a 13-over 589.
The Gaels were led by sophomore Dylan Newman, who shot a three-under 69 on day two. Coupled with his 76 on day one, Newman finished the two rounds at 1-over (145), tying for fourth. Just behind Newman in a tie for sixth was sophomore Doug Hoppe. Hoppe shot a one-uner 71 on day two, finishing with a two day score of 147 (+3). Junior Andrew Shortall shot an even 72 on day two, finishing with a two day score of 150 and tying for 11th. Sophomore Andrew Graham shot a ten-over 82 on day two adding to his score of 71 on day one to finish in a tie for 20th with a score of 153 (+9). Senior Jordan Lesansky cut six strokes from his day two scoring, shooting a four-over 76 to finish tied for 41st with a score of 158 (+14).
The Gaels are back in action next weekend at the Navy Spring Invite in Annapolis, MD.
