NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Three players from the Iona College men's soccer team have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's All-Northeast Region Teams for NCAA Division I men's soccer.

Senior forward Giovanni Destasio and junior midfielder Mario Rios were named the the All-Region First Team.  This season, Destasio led the MAAC in points per game (1.75), goals (10), and goals per game (0.83).  He scored five game winning goals to help lead the Gaels to a program-record eight conference victories.  Rios was second on the Iona squad with five assists and scored one goal with 18 starts in 19 appearances.

Also earning a spot was senior forward Fernando Lissera, who was named to the All-Region Third Team.  Liserra led the Maroon & Gold with a career-high eight assists and also set a personal record with five goals while starting every game for Iona.

The 2009 Gaels won the program's first ever MAAC regular season title, and head coach Fernando Barboto was named the MAAC Coach of the Year.
