SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The Iona College baseball team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Big East's Seton Hall in non-conference action at Owen T. Carroll Field.
The Gaels (15-25) surrendered the first run of the contest in the bottom of the second inning. In the top of the fourth, senior 1B Michael Chiaravalloti singled home rookie DH Jimmy Guiliano to account for the Maroon & Gold's lone tally and tie the score at 1-1.
The Pirates (23-18) scored once in the fourth, fifth and eighth innings in the 4-1 win.
Chiaravalloti was the long Gael with multiple hits going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Guiliano, senior 3B Chris Burke and sophomore SS Matthew Kriss each had base hits. Burke posted his 15th double of the year in the sixth.
Iona got a second straight strong midweek outing from rookie RHP Steve Basile and senior RHP Vincent Parisi. After allowing three runs on eight hits to Fordham last week, the duo surrendered four runs (three earned) on seven hits to Seton Hall.
Pirates 3B Kyle Grimm was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. LHP Greg Terhune tossed 4.2 innings allowing five hits and had four strikeouts to earn the win.
The Gaels return to Salesian Field this weekend for a three-game series vs. Marist. The first game of the Saturday (Apr. 28) doubleheader is slated for noon.
