EDISON, NJ - The Iona College volleyball team was selected to finish seventh in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference this season in the preseason poll conducted by the league's 10 head coaches. Sophomore middle hitter Catrina Warren was one of eight performers picked on the preseason All-MAAC team.
The Gaels finished tied with Manhattan for sixth place in the conference in 2011 posting a 9-9 conference mark. The squad finished one win behind the fourth place finishers Canisius and Marist.
Warren returns for her second season in Maroon & Gold after a breakout rookie campaign. She led all Iona performers with a .314 hitting percentage and 100 total blocks (1.06 per set). The percentage was No. 2 in the MAAC while the block average was tops among her league opponents. Her 247 kills was second on the team behind returning junior outside hitter Alicja Pawelec. Warren and senior libero Theresa Harvey were the lone players for the Gaels to appear in and start all 26 matches and all 94 sets played.
Under the tutelage of second-year head coach Jon Killingbeck, the Iona roster features 13 underclassmen. Harvey and fifth-year senior Molly O'Shea are the two veterans that look to lead Iona back into the MAAC Championship after the young Gael squad fell short of qualifying last season for the first time since 2001. Other key returners that saw significant action last season include juniors Ellen Carberry, Kelsey Hess and Madisyn Spence and sophomores Katie Marabella and Caris Myles.
