NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College volleyball freshman MH Catrina Warren and junior libero Theresa Harvey earned weekly honors from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and Collegiate Volleyball Update. Warren was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week while Harvey was named to the CVU.com Top Performers List.
Warren posted 3.56 kills and 1.22 blocks and hit a team best .357 in nine sets played during Iona's 2-0 MAAC weekend vs. Rider and Loyola. The rookie middle recorded 32 kills, 11 blocks, 13 digs and four aces during the week. She posted a career-best 18 kills vs. Rider on Saturday before a 14-kill, .480 hitting percentage, six block, six dig, and four ace performance vs. Loyola on Sunday. Warren led Iona with 42.5 total points.
It is Warren's third MAAC Weekly honor of the season after earning MAAC Rookie of the Week on two occasions on Sep. 6 and Sep. 19. She is the first MAAC rookie to earn an Offensive or Defensive Player of the Week honor this season and the first since Siena's Taylor Akana on Sep. 20, 2010.
Harvey posted 65 digs in nine sets (7.22/s) and converted 50 of 45 service receptions for the Gaels in their MAAC wins this weekend. She fell one dig shy of Iona's single-match record with 42 digs in a five-set win over Rider on Saturday. Harvey became just the third Iona player to reach the 40-dig plateau. On Sunday, she posted 23 digs in a four-set win over Loyola.
Harvey earned her third MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honor and has split the six awards this season with Niagara libero Sam Morgan. She is the first Iona performer to be featured on CVU.com's Top Performer list since former libero Allison Nieters on Nov. 18, 2008.
With a 4-2 league record, Iona stands in fourth place through the first three weekends of MAAC play. The Gaels host Saint Peter's on Saturday (Oct. 8) and third-place Manhattan on Sunday (Oct. 9) at the Hynes Center.
