NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College men's basketball team will host the Mid-American Conference's Buffalo in the quarterfinal round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament at the Hynes Center on Tuesday (Mar. 22) at 7:30 pm. The Bulls advanced to the round of eight with a thrilling come-from-behind victory at MAC-rival Western Michigan on Saturday. The Gaels will will host a postseason tournament contest for the first time since Mar. 14, 1996 in an NIT game vs. Saint Joseph’s (Pa.).
Buffalo earned its 20th win of the season with its win at Western Michigan in the second round of the CIT on Saturday. They enter the contest with a 20-13 overall record and 8-8 in MAC play, tied for fifth place in the East Division. Three performers have averaged double-digits for the Bulls prior to Saturday’s game. Junior guard Zach Filzen leads the team with a 15.7 ppg average. The team's leading deep threat, Filzen has converted 109 three-pointers. Senior point guard Byron Mulkey averages 13.2 points and a team-best 4.6 assists per game. The 6-0 guard has converted 47 three-pointers and recorded a team-high 81 steals. Freshman forward Javon McCrea has posted 11.6 ppg and a team-leading 6.3 rpg. He also is tops on the squad with a 63.0 FG%.
The two teams will meet for the eighth time in history. Buffalo holds a 4-3 series lead after winning the last meeting at the beginning of the 2006-07 campaign. The Gaels and Bulls are deadlocked at 2-2 in New Rochelle. Iona took the last meeting at the Hynes Center, winning its 20th game of the year on Feb. 18, 2006 in a convincing 93-75 fashion in the ESPNU Bracketbusters matchup.
The Gaels topped Valparaiso in the first round of the CIT and earned a bye in to the quarterfinal round of eight. Junior Mike Glover
led five players in double-digit scoring with 17 points. He completed his 19th double-double of the year with 11 rebounds. The Gaels earned their first postseason win since 1983 with the victory over Valpo.

The Goal Club member only reception is scheduled to begin at 6:15pm and will continue until tip-off at 7:30pm.
