NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College men’s basketball seniors Scott Machado and Mike Glover continue to add postseason accolades to their basketball resumes as the duo were named to the 2012 Lute Olsen All-America Team and the ECAC All-Stars squad. Glover and Machado are now eligible for the Lute Olson National Player of the Year Award.
Machado was also named as a member of the Basketball Times All-American First team. Joining the Iona guard on the first team is Anthony Davis from Kentucky, Thomas Robinson of Kansas, Doug McDermott from Creighton and Isaiah Canaan from Murray state.
Machado adds his sixth post season accolade when he was named to the ECAC First Team that is comprised of C.J. McCollum (Legigh), Kevin Jones (West Virginia), Kris Joseph (Syracuse), and Andrew Nicholson (Saint Bonaventure). Glover ends his two-year Iona campaign with is fourth postseason honor on the Second Team with Jeremy Lamb (Connecticut), Mike Scott (Virginia), Zack Rosen (Pennsylvania) and Mike Muscala (Bucknell). Lehigh's C.J. McCollum was named Player of the Year and Duke's Austin River's was named Rookie of the Year.
The Queens, New York native has already picked up the 2012 Pepsi Max MAAC Player of the Year award along with MAAC First Team honors. He was named to the USBWA and NABC All-District Teams. Machado finished as a top-15 in the Naismith Award and a top-11 finalist for the Bob Cousy Award. Earlier in the season, Machado was named to the Lou Henson Award mid-season honors presented by CollegeInsider.com.
Glover like Machado was named to the USBWA and NACB All-District Team and was an All-MAAC First Team member. Glover began the season being tabbed on the Preseason Top 50 list for the John R. Wooden Award by the Los Angeles Athletic Club. The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player who has played at least two seasons with his respective team.
The award is named in honor of coaching great Lute Olson, who won 780 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent at the University of Arizona. During that stretch he led the Wildcats to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997.
The winner of the 2012 Lute Olson Award will be announced on March 30 in New Orleans, site of the NCAA men's basketball championship. Connecticut's Kemba Walker was the recipient of the 2011 award.
