EDISON, NJ - Iona College men's basketball senior Sean Armand was named MAAC Player of the Week for his performance in Iona's contests at No. 2 Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse and at home vs. George Mason at the Hynes Center.
Armand averaged 22.0 points, 3.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 steal in the Gaels two contests last week. Armand posted 14 points and three assists vs. the Jayhawks last Tuesday. Against the Patriots Saturday, Armand recorded his third career 30+ point effort with 30 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field. He was 6-of-7 from the charity stripe and added four three pointers. With his last trifecta with just over eight minutes to play, Armand became Iona's all-time three-point leader surpassing Steve Burtt's 263 long distance connections.
It was the first MAAC weekly award for the Maroon & Gold in 2013-14 and second career Player of the Week accolade for Armand. Iona has been honored 20 times in three-plus seasons under head coach Tim Cluess with a MAAC Player of the Week. Armand last earned the award on Jan. 14, 2013. Teammate David Laury was selected on Feb. 4.
The Gaels are in action in one contest this week when they travel to Ft. Myers, FL to take on Florida Gulf Coast Sunday (Dec. 1).
