Returns for his final season with the Maroon & Gold after a breakout 2011-12 campaign... Earned several preseason accolades after his first season at Iona including: Preseason Top 50 list for the John R. Wooden Award, CollegeInsider.com's Lute Olson Preseason All-America Team and the MAAC's Preseason Player of the Year. .. Also earned several postseason accolades from 2010-11: NABC All-District First Team, MBWA All-Met First Team, All-MAAC First Team, Basketball Times NCAA Newcomer of the Year, CollegeInsider.com's MAAC Player of the Year and Mid-Major All-American team, and MAAC and CollegeInsider.com Postseason All-Tournament team accolades. Extremely strong performer that also possesses great quickness in the post... Possesses good leaping ability and an excellent touch around the basket... Expanded his game in the offseason by working hard on his ball-handling and outside shooting ability… Earned the nickname "Optimus Prime" for his NYC street ball prowess during the summers... Originally attended Seton Hall University but did not meet NCAA initial eligibility requirements... Brother Anthony was a standout performer for St. John's University in the early 2000s... AS A JUNIOR (2010-11):
Made his long-awaited NCAA Division I debut for the Maroon & Gold after spending 2009-10 at the College of Eastern Utah in Price, UT where he earned his associate's degree... Began his career with 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field and 8-of-15 from the line vs. Kent State on Nov. 12... Poured in a season-high 28 points and nine rebounds vs. Cleveland State the next night... Converted 12-of-15 free throw attempts vs. the Vikings in the loss... Scored all 12 of his points in the second half vs. Bryant going 3-for-4 from the field and 6-for-8 from the line... Also recorded a season-best four blocks vs. the Bulldogs on Nov. 14... Recorded his first double-double in Maroon & Gold with 21 points and 17 rebounds in double OT win over Richmond at home on Nov. 18... Posted seven points and six rebounds in the second half after missing most of the first due to foul trouble at Albany on Nov. 23... Had his second “20&10” and second double-double of the year with 20 points and 13 rebounds at Norfolk State on Nov. 30... Was ESPN.com’s Top Player with 39 points and 14 rebounds in win over Canisius on Dec. 3... Shot 15-for-23 from the field and 9-for-11 from the line in the contest... Became the sixth player to record back-to-back 30+ point efforts with 30 points vs. Niagara on Nov. 5... Named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 22.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in the three games at the MAAC Championship... Held to just eight points and four rebounds in a CIT quarterfinal win over Buffalo on Mar. 22... Exploded for 33 points and 10 rebounds to lead Gaels to a CIT semifinal victory at East Tennessee State on Mar. 26... Posted his 21st double-double of the year with a game-high 22 points and 12 rebounds in the CIT Championship loss to Santa Clara.
BEFORE IONA (COLLEGE OF EASTERN UTAH / AMERICAN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY / BOYS TO MEN ACADEMY):
Played the 2009-10 campaign at the College of Eastern Utah in Price, UT and led the team with a 17.3 points per game average... Finished second on the team with 6.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game... Led the Golden Eagles to a third place finish at the national tournament as well as a Region XVIII and District I Championship... Named NJCAA All-American, Region XVII Player of the Year and First Team honoree while also being named Regional Tournament MVP for his performance... Prior to CEU, signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Seton Hall University... Starred scholastically for Boys to Men Academy (Ill.) leading the squad to a prep school national championship in 2007... Teamed with 2010 NBA Rookie of the Year and Sacramento Kings standout Tyreke Evans at America Christian School in Aston, PA where he was selected to play for the New York City team in the Jordan Brand Classic Regional Game at Madison Square Garden.
