The Iona College women's basketball team is in the midst of a nine-day international trip to Canada for a quintet of games and scrimmages against teams from the Ontario province.  To keep fans up to date with the action, a different member, or members, of the team will be blogging a daily report on

This is freshmen Cassidee Ranger and Aaliyah Robinson with today's blog entry for August 16th.  Today we woke up and had breakfast on our own and then had an 11:00 am Pilates workout with Coach Kelly. Then we relaxed around the hotel and enjoyed some free time, until we met for team meal at 2:00 pm.

We ate at Baton Rouge, and they had by far the best food that we have eaten over the past week! We had about an hour before we had to leave for the game to mentally get ready and prepare for the game.  Whether it's listening to music or just sitting quietly, we all have a different approach to getting prepared for games.

Today's game was a big game for the entire team, and today was supposed to test us. Not only did we have to play back to back, but because the University of Ottawa was ranked number one last year and was said to be the best of the three teams we'll play in Canada. Once we got there and began warming up I knew we would have a good game. In warm-ups we were focused and made a lot of shots, which definitely reflected in the game. From the tip, we were the aggressors and all played hard, feeling like we out ran them and played very well as a team. I'm glad that we walked away with our third win and we're excited to finish off these next two games the same way!

All in all, we really had another exciting day in Canada with the team. This experience is one we will never forget; having the opportunity to play internationally gives a new perspective of how the game of basketball is played around the world.  Everyday is a start to a new beginning to get better in anyway possible at Iona, why not start off early?
