NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College women's basketball team (11-19, 7-11 MAAC) hosted Manhattan (21-8, 13-5 MAAC) on senior day at the Hynes Athletics Center, falling 57-51 to end the 2010-11 regular season.  The Gaels and Jaspers will meet again in the quarterfinals of next weekend's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship.

Manhattan opened a 6-0 lead before Iona scored its first points of the afternoon on a pair of free throws by Anda Ivkovic at the 16:11 mark.  A Monica Roeder layup gave the visitors an 8-2 lead before the Gaels mounted a 9-0 run and pulled ahead on a three-point field goal by Diana Hubbard with 11:21 on the clock.  The two squads battled neck-and-neck over the ensuing minutes, tying the score at 11, 14, 17, and 19-all.  Manhattan notched six straight points on consecutive treys by Roder and went on to lead 26-22 at halftime.

The lead was extended to 11 points at 35-24 as the Jaspers opened period two with a 9-2 run, but Iona responded with a 7-0 rally of its own to get back within four, 35-31, with 14:06 remaining.  The Jaspers reached a game-high 12 point cushion using a 14-6 run to lead 49-37 with 6:28 left.  Despite scoring nine of the final 12 points over the closing 1:47, the Gaels couldn't make up the difference and ended the day six points shy.

Milica Paligoric recorded her first double-double of the year with ten points and a career-high 11 rebounds.  Kristina Ford led Iona with 12 points and added seven rebounds, while Ivkovic tallied 10 points and five boards.  Marissa Flagg handed out four assists for the Gaels.  Hubbard and Tomica Bacic both grabbed six rebounds, as Iona outrebounded Manhattan 44-30, including an 18-4 edge on the offensive glass.

The Gaels and Jaspers will take part in a rematch on Friday, Mar. 4 at 11:30 am at Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, CT in the quarterfinals of the MAAC tournament.  The winner goes on to face either Loyola (18-11, 15-3 MAAC), Canisius (10-19, 6-12 MAAC), or Niagara (1-28, 0-18 MAAC) in the semifinals at 9:30 am on Saturday.
