Women's Basketball Recruiting Update
As the summer draws near and classes begin to end, the Iona College women's basketball team's incoming group of freshmen have been finishing up her high school careers. ICGaels.com and head coach Anthony Bozzella wanted to let fans know how the group did this past season as they prepare to suit up for the Maroon & Gold next season.
Cassidee Ranger, a late signee from Chandler, Arizona, was a member of a 5 A1 state championship finalist team a season ago at Hamilton High School, the first in school history. A three-point specialist, Ranger broke the school's single season record for threes in a season and tied the school record with six three-pointers in a game. She was also named an AIA All-Section Honorable Mention and named to the Arizona Senior All-Star Team. She was also a finalist in the three-point contest at American Family High School Slam and 3-Point Contest.
Joy Adams was named First Team All-Metro and Second Team All-County in her final season at Evans High School and named Florida Athletic Coaches Association 7A District 11 Player of the Year. MVP of her squad, Brown finished her high school career with 1541 points and 1081 rebounds.
Jordan Henry led her squad in almost all categories, posting 13.9 ppg, good for eighth in Union County. Her 15.3 rebounds per game and 6.3 blocks per game were both tops in the county. She leaves Marvin Ridge as the school's all-time leader in points witrh 1021, rebounds with 957 and blocked shots with 280. The rebounds and blocks were the most in school history by both a men's or women's performer. Henry earned First Team Recognition by AllUnionCountyHoops.com and named Player of the Year by that publication as well as the Union County Weekly.
Kalesia Johnson duplicated her scoring average of her junior year, posting 18.7 points per game. Johnson increased her playmaking role, posting six assists per game, doubling her input from the previous season. She was named Osceola County Player of the Year for a second consecutive season and named to the CEntral Florida Top 20. Poinciana captured its third consecutive district championship and second ever Sweet 16 appearance in school history.
Christina Rubin was named First Team All-Staten Island by the New York Daily News and named to the Staten Island Advance High School All-Star Team. Rubin averaged 18.4 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 2.4 apg on a team that won four consecutive CHSAA Archdiocesan titles. Rubin finished her career with 1308 points, including 182 career three pointers.
Aaliyah Robinson averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds per contests as well as four steals per game. She was named to numerous postseason teams, including the Connecticut High School Coaches Association All-State Team, named All-Division by the Southern Connecticut Conference, All-County by the New Haven Tapoff Club, All-State and All-Area by the New Haven Register. This season Robinson participated in the JCC Schoolgirl Classic All-Star Game.
