The Iona College women's basketball team is in the midst of a nine-day international trip to Canada for a quintet of games and scrimmages against teams from the Ontario province. To keep fans up to date with the action, a different member, or members, of the team will be blogging a daily report on ICGaels.com.
Jordan Henry and Christina Rubin here! We are both freshmen here at Iona. For
both of us, this is our first international trip. We didn’t know what to expect, but we
sure didn’t expect this. This trip has been ten times better than we could have ever
imagined. We started out third day with an enjoyable Applebees breakfast before a
tough competitive practice. Practice was only a 20 minute drive from our hotel and
lasted three hours. After, we rushed back to our hotel, showered and were well on
our way to Niagara Falls. For both of us it was our first time ever experiencing the
Falls up close in person. It was an unexplainable sight, beautiful and amazing.
Prior to our boat ride on the Maid of the Mist, we took our first "family" photo
and we each received our own copy after the ride. We then toured the Falls on the
famous boat. For those who don’t know what the Maid of the Mist is, it’s a double
decker boat that travels throughout the falls. Not one person was not soaking wet
by the time we exited off it. We received ponchos that sort of protected us, but it
was useless! It was truly an experience that we will never forget. After we survived
the tour we made it back to the hotel in enough time to shower, throw on sweats
and go to a beautiful dinner at Shoeless Joe’s with the team.
After dinner we had a relaxing evening considering we have a 7:00 pm game
Monday night. It is our first game ever as Iona Gaels and we want to be as rested as
possible. All in all we had another great day with our teammates, who have taken us
in as family and we could not have wished for more. We are excited to see what
tomorrow brings and are more than ready to compete here in Canada.
