EDISON, NJ - For the third time this season, Iona College sophomore forward Joy Adams has been recognized as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Adams played a pivotal role as the Gaels earned three victories last week and moved to 10-0 in conference play.
Adams picked up three consecutive double-doubles this week, averaging 17.7 points, 13 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. The three victories also extended Iona's program record winning streak to 16 games. Adams shot 52.9% from the field, (18-34) and 93.3% (14-15) from the foul line over the three games.
Adams opened the week with a 16 point, 16 rebound effort against Manhattan. Adams connected on five shots from the field and was a perfect 6-6 from the line. Of Adams' 16 rebounds, six came on the offensive end.
On the road against Monmouth, Adams scored 21 points on 6-8 shooting from the field, including 2-3 from behind the arc, and a near perfect 7-8 effort from the line. Adams pulled down 13 rebounds and dished out three assists in the victory. Adams wrapped up the week with a 16 point, 10 rebound effort against Saint Peter's. Adams shot 53.8% (7-13) from the field in the win, and had her second straight three assist game.
Overall this season, Adams has picked up 17 double-doubles, which is tied for first in the nation and matches her total from a season ago in which she led freshman nationally in the category.
The Gaels are back in action Thursday, when they host Fairfield for a 7:00 pm start.
