BINGHAMTON, NY - Senior Ali Werner's 76th minute goal, her first of the season and the fifth of her career, helped the Iona College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Binghamton on the road.  The Gaels snapped a four game slide with the win, improving to 2-7 in non-conference play.

With 14:23 remaining in regulation, the Gaels worked the ball on the left flank and when a trio of Bearcat defenders got caught up in a pile, Werner lofted a looping shot from 22 yards out that nestled just under the crossbar and above the outstretched hands of Binghamton goalkeeper Carrie Martin.  Freshman Carly Haden earned an assist on the play.

Iona's triumph was its second by shutout this season as the team handed the Bearcats (2-5) their fourth scoreless loss of the year.  First-year netminder Trista Rivera topped her personal best with nine saves in her second career shutout.

The Maroon & Gold goes for back-to-back wins upon returning to Mazzella Field for a 4:00 pm match against Long Island on Sep. 20.
