EDISON, NJ - Iona College women's soccer graduate goalkeeper Lauren Ferris and freshman forward Charlotte Stuart were both recognized by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference for their efforts in their debut weekends for the Gaels.  Ferris was named Defensive Player of the Week while Stuart earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Ferris made 11 saves and posted a 0.53 GAA and .917 save percentage over 170:39 minutes of action as the Gaels went 1-1 to start the 2014 season.  Ferris, a transfer from St. John's, made seven stops in 80:39 minutes of action in her Iona debut, a 3-0 shutout victory over LIU Brooklyn.  Ferris then completed the opening weekend slate with a four save effort against Wagner on the road.

Stuart began her Iona career with a bang, scoring twice in the win over LIU Brooklyn.  Stuart tallied both of her goals in the first half.  Stuart struck for her first collegiate goal in the ninth minute. Stuart picked up a loose ball less than 20 yards from the net and scored after the LIU Brooklyn goalie fell in the loose ball scrum. In the 33rd minute, Stuart struck once again. After a shot by teammate Melissa Frederick was blocked, Stuart snuck in the rebound to put the Gaels ahead 2-0.  Stuart followed up her standout performance with a team high three shots against Wagner in the weekend's other contest.

The Gaels return to action on Friday, Aug. 29 when they host Sacred Heart in their home opener at Mazzella Field. Kickoff is set for 3:00 pm.
