BUFFALO, NY - The Iona College softball team completed weekend Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play a doubleheader split with Canisius at Demske Sports Complex.  The Gaels got three runs in the first inning of game one and went on for a 5-3 win before dropping game two 1-0 to the Golden Griffs.

In game one, the Gaels got on the board with three runs in the second inning.  With the bases loaded, junior Cari Anderson reached on a fielder's choice.  A Canisius error allowed two of the runners to score and put runners on second and third.  Junior Jodi Petersen followed with a single up the middle that scored freshman Angie Nieves to plate the third run of the inning.

The Gaels got another run in the top of the fifth.  Junior Eileen McCann led off with a single and stole second base.  With a runner in scoring position, senior Alyssa Maiese plated McCann with single through the right side to put Iona ahead 4-0.  In the sixth, Iona got its final run of the game.  Anderson was hit by a pitch to lead off.  After being sacrificed to second, and moved to third on a groundout, McCann drove her in with a single to right center.
