NAMPA, ID - Iona College men's indoor track senior Leonard Korir finished sixth in the 2012 NCAA Championship 5,000-meter run at Boise State University. The 2011 title holder in the event fell short of a repeat.
Korir's time of 13:45.15 was 20 seconds behind the race winner, Lawi Lalang from Arizona. Stanford's Chris Derrick, Arizona's Stephen Sambu, Southern Utah's Cameron Levins and Northern Arizona's Diego Estrada rounded out the top five. Korir was under seven seconds behind Estrada and topped Minnesota's Hassan Mead by nearly the same spread. He earned his seventh All-American honor in his career at Iona.
Korir and teammate Mitch Goose will compete in the 3,000-meter championship on Saturday at 9:55 pm ET.
