PHILADELPHIA, PA - Freshman Jake Byrne and junior Craig Murphy led eight members of the Iona College men's track team at the 2012 Penn Relays at Franklin Field. Byrne was second overall in his section of the 5000-meter college event while Murphy finished third in the 10,000-meter run.
Byrne finished the 5k event in 14:01.99, just over eight seconds behind the race winner from Indiana. He was less than a second ahead of the third place competitor from Central Michigan. Senior Alexander Soderberg (14:11.28) was 11th while junior Chris Stogsdill (14.47.41) finished 26th.
Murphy ran a 29:37.55 in the 10k, finishing six seconds off the race winner. Rookie Andrew Kowalsky was 13th (30:25.09) and senior Colin Culhane finished 19th (30:38.66) in a personal best time.
Junior Jimmy Tarsnane competed in the second section of the 5k event and finished 10th with a personal best time of 14:36.59. Freshman Michael O'Dowd was 25th overall (14:53.94).
