Gaels Compete At Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Iona College men's outdoor track and field team finished action at the 2011 Penn Relays. Senior Josh Hibbs, sophomore Matt Bayley and graduate Mitch Goose were the Gaels top performers at the event.
Hibbs finishes sixth overall in the College Division of the 3000-meter steeplechase event, finishing in 9:08.80. He was two seconds behind UNC Greensboro's Joey Thompson. The time qualified Hibbs for the IC4A Championships on May 13 and 14 at Princeton University.
In the 5000-meeter championship, Bayley earned a fourth place finish with a time of 14:06.91. He was six seconds behind the race winner, Terefe Ejigu from Eastern Michigan. Goose followed three spots behind is teammate in seventh place (14:15.03). He out kicked William & Mary's Lewis Woodard and Michigan's Bobby Aprill who finished less than a half second behind the Iona harrier.
