RIVERDALE, NY - The No. 4 Iona College men's cross country team earned one of its more dominant wins in meet history at the 2011 John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park. Senior Leonard Korir earned first place individual honors, leading the Gaels who placed the top four runners and six of the Top 10 in the event.
Korir dominated the race field, topping his teammate by nearly 30 seconds. He ran the eighth fastest time in meet history, recording a 24:27.95 in the 8k event.
Iona's next three performers all crossed within three seconds of each other and more than seven seconds ahead of the No. 5 performer, Dan Lowry from Brown. Seniors Mitch Goose (24:56.43) and Alexander Soderberg (24:58.87) joined junior Matt Bayley (24:59.28) with sub-25 minute times at historic Van Cortlandt. Junior Craig Murphy finished ninth in 25:21.30 while sophomore Chris Stogsdill was right behind in 25:27.07. Senior Colin Culhane was the Gaels seventh finisher in the race in 26:33.52.
The Maroon & Gold finished with 19 team points, 45 ahead of second place Brown University. Albany was third, followed by Columbia to round out the Top 5.
